Brooke Lewis

My name is Brooke Lewis. After having two children, getting caught up in daily routines, not making time for my health or fitness, and living a sedentary lifestyle I gained about 60+ pounds. I had feelings of insecurity (first and foremost) as well as no energy. This caused me to have a bad attitude and react negatively to any and everything. Being out of shape, overweight, and eating poorly takes a tole on not only your physical health, but also your mental and emotional health and well-being. I have joined basic gyms before only to waste countless amounts of money by going to walk the treadmill or elliptical for 30 minutes a day for a couple of weeks and then quit. I wouldn’t know what workouts to do, I wasn’t getting any results, and I didn’t have any motivation or encouragement.

I started CrossFit DGA back in April 2016. I became interested after hearing a couple of my peers and also my clinical instructor Amanda Tapley talk about how much they loved CrossFit and the benefits they get out of it. They also mentioned with CrossFit the workouts are premade so you do not go in feeling clueless. So, I decided to check it out. Everyone at CrossFit DGA is so friendly and encouraging and they keep the music bumping which makes it fun! The first time I joined CrossFit I ended up quitting after about five months. I decided I wasn’t going to keep at it if I couldn’t get my nutrition in gear. [80% nutrition; 20% exercise] A few months later we had family photos taken (pictured above) and that picture was the only motivation I needed to step it up with my nutrition and get back in the gym. Not to mention my eight year old son wrestles and my husband and I are constantly pushing him to work his hardest in training as well as maintain his weight for tournaments. It was only fair if he has to eat healthy and proportional and workout hard that I needed to do it as well. Also, my four year old has a mild case of cerebral palsy with left sided weakness and hyper spasticity. Never take anything for granted especially your health and physical fitness.

I started back in February 2017. I started low calorie dieting, cut out all sodas and sugary beverages completely, no late snacking, and I try to make CrossFit 3-4 days a week. I am currently learning the macro counting and can already see results after one week of this method. February 2018 marks my one year back in CrossFit and healthy lifestyle. I am 47 pounds down, and 25 more to go. I am not where I want to be, but far better than where I was. My favorite thing about CrossFit is you constantly feel yourself improving and there’s always room for improvement.
